Direct answer

Big Walk PS5 release and availability

The official release date for Big Walk on PS5 is August 4, 2026. The PlayStation Store lists Panic as publisher, House House as the developer in official materials, and online support for up to twelve players. The game is built for PS5 and no PS4 version is announced.

Big Walk is also available on Windows, Mac, and Nintendo Switch 2, and all supported systems can play together. The PS5 listing identifies the experience as online-only multiplayer, not a local campaign that happens to include network options. Players should organize at least one friend before downloading or purchasing it.

August Monthly Game

How the PlayStation Plus offer works

Sony named Big Walk as a PlayStation Plus Monthly Game for August 2026. Its official announcement says members can access the PS5 title from Tuesday, August 4 until Monday, August 31. Monthly Game lineups may differ by region, so the account’s own PlayStation Plus page is the final availability check.

The offer does not turn Big Walk into a permanently free game for every PS5 owner. An eligible subscription is needed to claim it under Sony’s terms, and PS Plus is also required for the online play that Big Walk uses. Later subscription status and any future return to the lineup are Unconfirmed on this page.

Check the August Monthly Games section before purchasing separately. Do not rely on a third-party “free code,” because the verified offer is delivered through PlayStation Plus.

Mixed-platform group

PS5 crossplay and Join Codes

PS5 players can join friends on Steam for Windows or Mac, the Mac App Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. Friends on the same PlayStation service may see an active host through the platform friends list. For cross-platform groups, the host’s short Join Code provides the clear connection method.

A new Join Code is generated whenever the host starts a session. The host can view it before starting or open Session Details after the game begins. Share it only with the intended group, because Big Walk has no random matchmaking system that filters or fills a private party automatically.

Choose a stable host

Hosting and progress on PS5

The host owns the save and Big Walk records that host’s progress automatically. Guests connect after the host starts, disconnect when the host stops, and need the same host to resume the same world later. Playing on PS5 does not change that rule when some guests use other platforms.

Crossplay should not be confused with cross-save or host migration. House House does not document moving the world to another player or transferring it between platform accounts. Pick the person with the most dependable schedule, then keep that person as host across the group’s long-form journey.

What the group does

Puzzles, talking, and exploration

Big Walk sends the group into a wide-open handcrafted world filled with challenges and discoveries. Players inspect structures, share visual or audio information, handle objects, time actions, and find their own route rather than following a standard mission arrow. The game also leaves deliberate time to wander, talk, and enjoy the island between puzzles.

Proximity voice chat fades with distance, echoes through corridors, becomes muffled behind walls, and crackles through walkie-talkies. Pointing and waving let players communicate when talking is blocked. In-game text chat follows the same restrictions and can support a complete playthrough without a microphone.

One console is not enough

Does Big Walk PS5 have couch co-op?

No official PS5 listing advertises couch co-op, split-screen, or two players on one console. The store says online play is required, while House House describes the game as cooperative online multiplayer. Multiple controller support in a system menu should never be treated as proof of a local multiplayer mode.

Friends in the same home can still play if each person has a supported device and they use separate rooms. House House recommends physical separation because hearing one another outside the game defeats proximity-chat puzzles. Everyone still connects online, and the console players need the network membership required by their platform.

Settings that help

PS5 controls and accessibility

Big Walk supports controllers and allows full control rebinding. Players can choose crosshair styles, switch some inputs between hold and toggle, adjust field of view, and use motion-reduction overlays. Characters can also carry one another, while some items highlight interactive objects.

The host can enable challenge skipping through the accessibility menu when starting a session. Challenges may otherwise rely on hearing or reading, speaking or typing, reaction speed, or fine motor control. Skipping a challenge preserves group progress but does not convert the game into single-player or remove its online requirement.

Verification

PS5 sources and evidence limits

Sony’s store and PlayStation Blog establish the PS5 release, online requirement, player count, and Monthly Game window. House House’s FAQ establishes crossplay, hosting, saves, Join Codes, chat, and accessibility. Unlisted modes are not inferred. In particular, the presence of controller support, a console friends list, or people sitting in one home is not treated as evidence of couch co-op. Subscription access is also separated from permanent ownership and from the PS Plus requirement for online play. Regional store terms control the final offer, so players should confirm the August Monthly Game on the account that will actually claim and launch it. Claims about any later catalog access remain dated and explicitly Unconfirmed. Check the same account used for online play.
